Parkside Investments was given the green light to build 470 new homes at the Crown Honda showroom in Hyde Estate Road, Colindale, at a meeting of the strategic planning committee on Tuesday. The scheme, known as The Rockery, involves knocking down the existing units and building three blocks of flats 20, 23 and 24 storeys high, with 35 per cent of the homes classed as affordable. It will also provide indoor community space, a café, retail opportunities, workspaces and storage.

Plan for 9-storey flats near low-rise Barnet homes refused

By Simon Allin @SimonAllin3 Local Democracy Reporter, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey A computer-generated image of the scheme (Image: tp bennett/Taylor Wimpey North Thames) A plan to build flats up to nine storeys high close to an area of low-rise, terraced housing has been turned down. Councillors refused Taylor Wimpey’s plan to build 307 homes at the site of the Homebase store at 679 High Road, North Finchley, at a meeting of the strategic planning committee on Wednesday. Officers at Barnet Council had recommended the scheme for approval, claiming it was in line with local policies and a development plan drawn up for the town centre.

Plan for 7-storey flats in Friern Barnet wins approval

By Simon Allin @SimonAllin3 Local Democracy Reporter, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey A CGI of the development at Colney Hatch Lane (Image: Assael Architecture) A plan to build 204 homes and a food store on the site of a former car showroom has been given the green light. Developer Montreaux has won permission to build two seven-storey blocks of flats at 231 Colney Hatch Lane, Friern Barnet. The scheme will provide 73 affordable homes and around 40 jobs, with discount retailer Lidl expected to occupy the commercial space. Barnet Council received 177 objections to the development, which was discussed at a meeting of the strategic planning committee on Wednesday. Many focused on its potential to worsen traffic congestion and air pollution while having a negative impact on neighbouring Coppetts Wood.
