2021 Audi RS6 Avant Vs RS7 Vs RS Q8 Comparison: Family Values ++ Does your fast family have some change in the piggy bank? Then one of these Audis is for you.
It’s a hackneyed trope, but as much as American consumers don’t like station wagons, American enthusiasts love them. It’s one reason why my colleagues and I look across the pond with wistfulness as our European friends have unfettered access to everything from the BMW 5 Series Touring to the Hyundai i30. Well, Audi is finally throwing us a rather delicious bone with the 2021 RS6 Avant, a twin-turbocharged station wagon.
The Best And Worst Cars We Drove In 2020 ++
By now, you’ve hopefully looked through the highest-rated vehicles
Motor1.com reviewed in 2020. It’s a good collection of stuff covering the length and breadth of the auto industry. But we came to the conclusions there based on objectivity, math (you should see the spreadsheet we use for calculating scores), and analysis. What you’ll find here is different.
These are the personal choices of our lead editorial team. These are subjective opinions, based on our own preferences and our own experiences – our journalist hats are off. Here, we talk about the vehicles that get us out of bed in the morning and the ones that we’d rather not think about after hours. The products that have us excited for the future and annoyed in the present. We hope you enjoy it.
Round One: Fight
Since it’s the quickest to 60, the BMW M8 gets the first-round bye. The front straight of this track is pretty narrow, so we re only able to run two cars at a time. That leaves the 760-hp Shelby and the hybrid Polestar 1 in the first race. We line the duo up at the starting point, just about a quarter-mile from the start-finish line, and behind the wheel of the Polestar is Senior Editor Brett T. Evans. Yours truly is in the driver s seat of the Shelby.
Even though the Mustang has more than 100 horses on the Polestar, the svelte Swede has an additional 100 pound-feet. And in a quarter-mile race like this, off-the-line twist is what matters most. But the Shelby has a nifty trick up its sleeve designed to get it to 60 as quickly as possible: Drag Strip mode with a customizable launch control system. Dig into the digital cluster and you ll find the launch control function, there you can change how many rpms the car applies at launch. We keep it at about 3,000 rpm as
In contrast to the modern Bimmer, the Mustang appears to be a fiercely retro throwback. Like its 1960s-era forebear, it packs a big V8 and routes power to the rear wheels alone, passing through a limited-slip differential before hitting the road through fat, sticky tires (Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, in this case). Dressed up in Twister Orange with dual white tape stripes and featuring the Mustang’s modern pony car styling, the GT500 wouldn’t look completely out of place at the 1969 NHRA Winternationals.
Powering the fast Mustang is a 5.2-liter Predator V8 engine, fitted with a cross-plane crankshaft and a 2.7-liter supercharger. That gives this car more low-end torque compared to the shrieking flat-plane engine in the GT350. The blown V8 produces 760 mustangs of its own, along with 625 lb-ft of torque – that first number is Ford’s best-ever result for a street product, eclipsing even the mighty GT supercar. It’s also the most powerful vehicle in this test, and by a big margin
