New African Development Bank-Global Center on Adaptation
African Development Bank President Akinwumi A. Adesina announced the launch on Monday of the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP) to mobilize $25 billion to scale up and accelerate climate change adaptation actions across Africa.
The announcement came during the Climate Adaptation Summit (CAS) 2021, hosted by the government of the Netherlands and the Global Center on Adaptation.
The AAAP, a joint initiative between the African Development Bank and the Global Center on Adaptation, is expected to scale up innovative and transformative actions on climate adaptation across Africa, Adesina said during the inaugural Ministerial Dialogue on Adaptation Action, held as part of the summit.

(AfDB ) - A climate resilient project in Zambia supported by the African Development Bank and Climate Investment Funds (CIF) has won the Water ChangeMaker People’s Choice Award-Africa, it was announced at the Climate Adaptation Summit 2021 on 25 January. The Strengthening Climate Resilience in the Kafue Sub-basin Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (SCRiKA), beat two other finalists identified by an expert jury to win first prize with roughly 7,000 votes.
Launched in 2014 with $38 million in funding from CIF, SCRiKA aims to strengthen rural communities’ capacity to withstand climate variability and the long-term consequences of climate change. By the end of 2020, about 1,200 microprojects had been rolled out under SCRiKA to advance hard and soft adaptations, helping 800,000 Zambian farmers develop greater resilience to flooding and drought
