Middle Tennessee mothers are speaking out against gun violence, murder

Finding healing in the wake of her son’s murder has not been easy for Rafia Muhammad-McCormick. As Muhammad-McCormick navigated the grieving process, she knew she needed to find purpose. I feel like God is calling me to do something with this sacrifice, to help me not to feel as isolated with the situation,  she said. And now, she has, thanks to a newly forming nonprofit and grief support group. Muhammad-McCormick unveiled her nonprofit Rodney’s Village at a Mothers Over Murder rally last Thursday at Murfreesboro’s Civic Plaza. Over 50 community members gathered at the rally, held in partnership with Nashville Peacemakers; seven parents of children killed by gun violence spoke.

Peace rally in Nashville for end of violence held hours after police shooting

A peace rally kicked off late Saturday morning in North Nashville calling for an end to violence across the city. The peace rally, which began at 1511 Jefferson Street, focused on solidarity, unity and a call for an end to gun violence, community organizer Gicola Lane said. We ve lost a lot of people to both community and police violence, Lane said. The goal is to really just call for absolute peace across the city.   The rally was followed by a march to City Hall. A downtown concert will follow. Nashville Peacemakers Founder & CEO Clemmie Greenlee, one of about 50 people who attended Saturday s morning rally, said she also attended a Friday night peace service which welcomed about 50 people.
