Three killed, 27 injured in KZN horror crash Share DURBAN: THREE people were killed and at least 27 others injured in a crash on the N2 at Tugela Bridge on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast this morning. IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Paul Herbst, said a light delivery vehicle was transporting employees when it collided with a heavy goods vehicle on the busy stretch of road. He said 27 people sustained moderate to critical injuries. Three persons have sustained fatal injuries. Paramedics and rescue crews are working to manage the scene and patients. Claudine Senekal, Ladysmith Herald Four people have been killed in a horrific collision along the N11, at Pepworth, near Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday morning. Claudine Senekal of the Ladysmith Herald reports that among the dead is a toddler. The cause of the crash is unknown at this stage. One driver has been detained by the Elandslaagte police for further questioning. A case of culpable homicide will be investigated. The dead, a man, two women and the child, have not yet been officially identified. Robert McKenzie of EMS said the crash took place 20km from Ladysmith towards Newcastle. He said three vehicles were involved in the crash. Paramedics treated six patients at the scene, said McKenzie.

Claudine Senekal/Ladysmith Herald A huge Rock Monitor lizard, commonly known as a likkewaan was found wandering in a Ladysmith resident s backyard. Fanie Cilliers, owner and founder of Ladysmith Snake Removal was called out to the house, on Monday. The resident sounded scared and at first could not believe he had found the large lizard about in his yard, said Cilliers.  The resident reported the rock monitor to have been as large as a dog. Ciliers said that it was easy to catch the lizard and the huge reptile seemed right at home in the arms of Cilliers.  I think she knows that she is safe, added Cilliers. The likkewaan was comfortable in the arms of the local snake catcher arms, even allowing Cilliers to pick off ticks and cleaning wounds. 

Nine-year-old surfer hailed as a hero for saving teen from rip current in KZN surf

Claudine Senekal,Ladysmith Herald An unidentified nine year old surfer has been hailed as a hero after rescuing a teenager who got into difficulty in a rip current on the KZN South Coast this weekend. The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said that on Sunday afternoon, NSRI Port Edward, SA Police Services, Police Search and Rescue and Medevac ambulance services attended an incident at Trafalgar Beach, KZN South Coast, where two teenagers, a girl and a boy, and two women got into difficulty in rip currents and were swept out to sea.  A local unidentified 9 year old surfer, using his surfboard, rescued the teenage boy from the water.
