Free outdoor film series set in North Amherst Published: 6/27/2021 8:14:49 PM AMHERST An outdoor cinema series featuring three musicals begins in the Mill District in North Amherst on Wednesday evening. Sponsored by the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce and in coordination with the Amherst Cinema, UMassFive College Credit Union and North Square Apartments, the first film will be “Get on Up,” a biopic about soul singer James Brown. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. at the Cowls Road location, and the film will be shown at 9 p.m. “Whether indoors or out, films are best experienced on the big screen and in community where we may laugh out loud, scream and cry, or in the case of this summer’s musicals, get up and dance,” Amherst Cinema Executive Director Yasmin Chin Eisenhauer said in a statement.

GAZETTE FILE PHOTO By SCOTT MERZBACH AMHERST The Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce intends to use funding from a state grant to launch a marketing campaign to draw visitors to attractions in Amherst and surrounding communities. The chamber received a $116,655 grant last week from the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism as part of $1.59 million given to 59 tourism organizations, chambers of commerce, and cities and towns. With the largest recovery grant received in the Pioneer Valley, the chamber will be able to showcase the Amherst area, including Hadley, Belchertown, Sunderland, Leverett, Shutesbury and Pelham, as a hub for culture, education, dining, agriculture and business.
