This all happens after a water main tore open an eightinch main sending cold water onto the highway, streets and sidewalks. Penndot crews were working to clear the snow and ice that formed after the water froze over. It was an ice rink for hours on the vine. Water from the leak went underground into the underground steam pipes that caused this amazing scene. They say when it gets this cold especially temperatures almost at zero. Temperatures are likely to burst and flood. When the water temperature drops below a certain point, you see a much higher rate of water main breaks. Water expands at colder temperatures. That puts pressure on the old and aging iron pipes in the city. The same thing can happen inside of your house.
