LAX launches an on-site COVID-19 rapid test lab
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is now offering COVID-19 rapid tests that are processed in a state-of-the-art, on-site laboratory, providing guests with a convenient and safe option for testing before or after travel.
“As more destinations around the world integrate COVID-19 testing requirements for arriving passengers, and as passengers are choosing to take steps to monitor their health when flying, providing easy access to rapid testing is another way LAX can help bolster safe travel,” said Justin Erbacci, Chief Executive Officer, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA). “In our continuous quest to innovate and reimagine the airport experience, we partnered with the private sector to design, construct and open a first-of-its-kind on-site laboratory that will provide an accessible and affordable rapid testing solution.”

The $125 nasal swab tests are administered and processed at the airport, and LAWA officials called the purpose-built on-site lab a first-of-its-kind for airports. Tests are available between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.
The testing facility and lab are located in a modular shipping container structure across the street from Terminal 6 on the Lower/Arrivals level, between parking structures 6 and 7. The building has shade coverings outside and floor markers to ensure physical distance between people in line.

Despite pleas from health officials LAX reports uptick in holiday travel; ramps up safety measures
LOS ANGELES - Despite pleas from local and public health officials, tens of thousands of travelers are passing through LAX every day this holiday season, according to airport officials.
Last year, nearly 5.9 million passengers used LAX during the winter holiday period and so far this December passenger traffic has been about 27% to the same days last year.
But still, some 40,000 people have been passing through security checkpoints every day for the last few days, part of an uptick the airport has experienced in the lead-up to Christmas.
