Senior-most Supreme Court judge Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana has been appointed as the next Chief Justice of India.
Justice Bobde dealt with several key matters during his tenure including the historic Ayodhya verdict, Right to Privacy, petitions challenging Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), Tata-Mistry case, protection of Great Indian Bustard, Mahabaleshwar temple issue, the appointment of ad-hoc judges in High Courts and ban on firecrackers.

New Delhi:Â A day after the Supreme Court took suo moto cognisance of the COVID-19 crisis across the country and said it may transfer cases being heard by various high courts to itself, the bench said others were unfairly “imputing motives” to the judges.
Several high courts in the country, particularly the Delhi and Bombay high courts, have been coming down heavily on the Centre for the lack of adequate oxygen supply.

SC intervention in COVID-19 management wrong, uncalled for: Congress

New Delhi: The Congress on Friday said the Supreme Court’s suo motu intervention in the management of COVID-19 in the country was “wrong” and “uncalled for”, and alleged that it amounts to over-centralisation of judicial powers.
The Congress also hit out at the government over its handling of the pandemic in the country where there is “shortage” of everything.
It said venerable institutions have to realise that their primary job is to protect the lives of citizens of India, not the reputation of the central government and demanded vaccine neutrality just like net neutrality.

Sharad Arvind Bobde, the outgoing Chief Justice of India (CJI), on Friday said he was leaving the Supreme Court with “happiness, goodwill and very fond memories” and the satisfaction of having done his best.
He headed the Indian judiciary during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic ensuring that the apex court kept functioning albeit via video conferencing.
