Thousands of St. Louis-area residents have weighed in on a new jobs plan that aims to chart the region s growth over the next 10 years. The group behind the plan released an updated version on Wednesday that took those comments into consideration.

In the fall of 2019, it looked like the fix was in for St. Louis County Lt. Col. Troy Doyle to become the department’s first Black police chief.
But it all came crashing to a halt when County Executive Sam Page started having campaign contribution problems, according to a discrimination lawsuit Doyle filed Tuesday.
In one conversation, Page told Doyle he was getting “push back” regarding the appointment of an African American chief of police, and that he was “having difficulty pushing this across the finish line,” a phrase he commonly used when referring to Doyle’s appointment to chief, according to the suit.

A 42-page report on the status of the St. Louis metro and county police departments consistently reiterated its employees think the agencies lack cohesion and unity â which has led to, in part, a fire-fighting mentality âin which they respond reactively to all calls for service in the absence of a clearly-articulated organizational plan.âÂ
Mayor Lyda Krewson, Public Safety Director Jimmie Edwards and Police Chief John Hayden announced the results of the six-month, outside review of the police departments July 1; it was released publicly Monday.Â
St. Louis Regional Business Council and the companies of Civic Progress, a coalition of local businesses that work to improve the St. Louis region, funded the study.Â

A draft of a new jobs plan for the St. Louis metropolitan area is drawing early criticism.
Greater St. Louis Inc., an organization that officially will launch in January merging five economic development groups, released a draft of the STL 2030 Jobs Plan earlier this month for public comment. The organization will collect feedback until the end of January.
The jobs plan, commissioned by Civic Progress, focuses heavily on a strategy to beef up the region’s core in an “inclusive” way that also reduces racial disparities in income and wealth.
