WELLSVILLE Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, the Wellsville Lions Club continues to provide support to the local community.
On Friday, the Lions Club reported its February disbursements including one with a connection to one of Wellsville s most famous names.
The Club committed $1,670 for a historical marker commemorating Gabby Hayes, which will be placed near Pizza King on North Main Street in the Village of Wellsville.
George Gabby Hayes was born in Wellsville on May 7, 1885 and went on to a successful career in film and television. He was well known for his acting roles in Westerns during a long Hollywood career. He died Feb. 9, 1969 in Burbank, Calif.
