It was billed as a discussion titled “The State of Our Democracy: Bridging the Political Divide in WA.” But the exchange between the state’s GOP and Democratic Party chairs Wednesday night was more of a bridge to nowhere.
Tina Podlodowski called the Republican Party’s claims to represent Washington residents “a joke” and accused its chair of being bound up in historic racism, misogyny and homophobia.
Caleb Heimlich accused Podlodowski of talking endlessly about Donald Trump and national politics to distract from local issues, and said that rural Washington is turning even farther away from Democrats.

Friday Politics: Teachers can get vaccines but schoolâs still out in Seattle Mar 05, 2021
Governor Jay Inslee moved quickly this week to add teachers, school staff and licensed childcare workers to the list of those eligible to receive the Covid vaccinations.
From the president on down thereâs a sense that getting kids off their screens and into the classroom is an urgent priority for education reasons. and for mental health reasons.

This week in politics: Seattle races are quiet . too quiet? Feb 26, 2021
Itâs been a quieter week in local Seattle politics. Some would say, too quiet.
What exactly is going on with the Seattle mayorâs race? Or the competition for a Council seat? I was thinking that we would have more announcements [by now], says Essex Porter, politics and government reporter for KIRO 7. Even well-known big names don t have much time left, I m thinking, because you have to organize and raise money.
Porter notes that mayoral candidates have to get past the primary in August, and time can move fast between campaign organizing and raising money.
