Wadena, Todd and Hubbard counties are listed as severe drought by the United States Drought Monitor, as of July 6, along with Otter Tail and Becker counties having portions of severe drought and abnormally dry conditions with the rating of moderate drought.

As Minnesota’s hottest month sets in, the Wadena area has already experienced a heat wave, critical fire conditions, small amounts of precipitation and hurt crops.
Uselman: It’s time to give MN firefighters the health support they need
Minnesota ranks 48th in the nation in fire department and firefighter funding, down from 44th in just one year. Something must be done to reverse these harrowing trends.

The lap pool at the Maslowski Wellness and Research Center is getting a fresh coat of plaster in the near future.

Wadena City Council members voted unanimously in support of funding a recoating of the lap pool within the Maslowski Wellness and Research Center at a cost of $54,659 during their Tuesday, Dec. 8 council meeting.
The work involves adding new plaster to the surface of the large lap pool, which has a surface area of about 4,200 square feet. MWRC manager Eric Robb said the work was needed to repair a damaged surface. He described parts of the pool at “blotchy” with plaster worn or chipped away across large areas of the pool in some cases up to a quarter inch deep.
