Kalispel Tribe makes offer to acquire Spokane County Raceway

KXLY May 5, 2021 2:06 PM Erin Robinson Credit: Spokane County AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. The Kalispel Tribe has made an offer to acquire the Spokane County Raceway, which may lead to its eventual reopening to the public.  As offered, the 243-acre property would be sold to the Tribe for $4,750,000 and would include the land, buildings and some business-related equipment. Pursuant to Washington State Law, Spokane County may sell county property directly to a federally recognized Tribe by declaring the property “surplus” and holding a public hearing on the proposed sale.  Spokane County is required to notify the City of Airway Heights of the offer, as they hold a First Right of Refusal, which was granted in 2011 on one of three parcels subject to the sale. The city will have 30 days to exercise or terminate its option.

Airway Heights seeks $22M for water source after contamination

Airway Heights seeking $22M for new water source after firefighting foam contamination Airway Heights recently completed an analysis of alternatives for a long-term water solution, which pointed to the development of a new well. Author: Megan Carroll Updated: 8:47 AM PDT April 1, 2021 AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. The City of Airway Heights is seeking $22 million from state and federal officials for a new well after the city s domestic water supply was impacted in May 2017 by chemicals found in fire extinguishing foam and other materials. Tests done in May 2017 showed that the city s water supply had been impacted by PFOS and PFOA. The chemicals seeped into groundwater from a fire-training site on the eastern edge of Fairchild Air Force Base, according to the city. A 2018 Washington state law later restricted the use of PFAS in firefighting foam and personal protective equipment.

Airway Heights Asks State For $16 Million To Replace Drinking Water System

1:35 Airway Heights is asking the Washington State Legislature for $16 million to build a new water system after their supply was contaminated by firefighting chemicals used on Fairchild Air Force Base. Nearly four years ago, the city of Airway Heights discovered its water was contaminated by firefighting chemicals used at nearby Fairchild Air Force Base. Now, the city is asking the state of Washington to pitch in for a new source of clean drinking water. Airway Heights needs about $22 million for a new water system. City Manager Albert Tripp says construction can begin late next year, but first he has to find the money. Tripp said the city’s $16 million request in the state’s capital budget is a key piece of that funding.
