STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Born in West Brighton and raised in Port Richmond, John McBeth is a lifelong Staten Islander and longtime community activist who wants to be the North Shore’s next City Council member.
McBeth, who currently lives in Mariners Harbor, is one of over 12 candidates in the June 22 Democratic primary for the race to replace City Councilwoman Debi Rose, who will be term-limited at the end of the year.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. With coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine eligibility set to expand this week and an increasing supply expected, two elected officials toured a Staten Island vaccination site Monday.
Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and City Councilwoman Debi Rose (D-North Shore) toured the site at Empire Outlets Monday afternoon as calls continue for more vaccine access on Staten Island.
“I know they want to expand capacity,’ Williams said. “You probably need to get a couple more (sites) in different areas of Staten Island. We obviously have to just open some more sites.”

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. A City Council candidate for the North Shore’s seat tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) Saturday after a morning spent canvassing.
Candidate Amoy Barnes, a staffer with the city Department of Education (DOE), said she tested positive in the afternoon, and that she was “still processing” the diagnosis before referring the Advance/SILive.com to representatives from the campaign. Barnes is running to replace City Councilwoman Debi Rose (D-North Shore).
