Dr. Paul gausman, superintendent of Sioux City Community Schools School officia notified parents of the incident. Through an automated phone call. Around 6 pm monday evening. Some parents were upset they werent made aware of the situation earlier. However, we spoke with one parent who said she agreed with the schools decision to continue the school day. People do things anywhere you go, malls, theaters, people can do things so its no different than at a school, said allision sexton. I think the staff acted as quickly and safely as they could to prevent something from happening because things are going to happen in society today. The student t o brought the unloaded weapon to school is now suspended. Until the School District completes an investigation on the issue. Which could last up to 45 days. According to the districts policy, the student could face explusion from the school for one year. Dr. Gauzman says, its not clear why the student brought the gun to school. Dr. Gausman on the
Bring a weapon to campus before the day began. Once the student got to school, they were able to search, locate the weapon and then detain the student. He was then taken into custody by the police. Once again, its important to note, that the student didnt have the capability to load the weapon, but dr. Gausman says that doesnt change the severity of the issue. We will follow all of the necessary steps, procedures and protocols to make certain that we do all that is necessary to keep our students and Staff Members safe, said Sioux City Community schools superintendent, dr. Paul gausman. Now, speaking of those procedures and protocols, its important to note that student cant return to school until this case is fully resolved.
