Our breaking news is in Santa Cruz County where a sheriffs deputy is dead after being shot in what investigators say was an ambush attack. Reporter eric, the last time Santa Cruz County lost one of their own was in the early 1980s. They said the sergeant was a beloved figure in the department. They are grieving his loss. A person reported seeing a van with guns and bombmaking devic devices. The van was parked off waldenberg avenue in ben lomond, they were attacked. As deputies began began began investigating they were ambushed with gunfire. Officer down, lz set up by highlands park, officer down at 1430. The insurgent was shot and taken to the hospital, where he died. Another deputy was either shot or struck by shrapnel from the bomb. Investigators say the suspect is steven corillo of ben lomond, taken down with the help from neighbors. My dog immediately went after the guy that was being tackled.
