Weve been monitoring a large, loud, boisterous, yet peaceful demonstration as it makes its way through the streets of San Francisco. Lets take a look from up above chopper 5. This is a crowd of about thousands. They started at city hall, roughly 3 00 with a few hundred. Now it has grown exponentially. These folks are protesting the death of george floyd, one of many demonstrations around the country. Demonstrating against the death of a man at the hands of a Police Officer. Weve watched as just in the last hour, this crowd branched off in two different directions. One went toward the bay bridge. The other toward the hall of justice. One young demonstrator said he recognizes even gathering in this crowd presents a risk to him. Were all risking something by being here. You see, like, how armed the police here
Unemployment benefits last week. That is double the previous weeks record of 3. 3 million. Ringing the total to almost 10 million. Here in california 878,000 people filed first time and implement claims last week compared to 186,000 the week before. California has twice as many claims as any other state. Relief is now available for Small Businesses in california affected by the outbreak. Governor newsom today announced a relief package that extends the sales tax deadline for Small Businesses to july 1. Businesses with less than 5 million in taxable sales will be able to defer payment of up to 30,000 for one year without a fine or penalty. In essence it is a bridge loan. Met with the local councilman and Police Officers multiple times. The last meeting was 10 days ago. Its an insult to our police and firefighters to say its their fault. Thats ridiculous. The owner did not pick up any of my phone calls. The Fire Department is investigating the cause, but the people who lived here believe it may be an electrical fire. Chopper 5 was over the scene about noon at 73rd and doorwood avenues. The driver told police there were 2 suspects, and they had a gun. They stole packages out of the truck.
