Hartfordâs Mt. Moriah Baptist Church has started a new faith-based ministry called âMissions on the Mountâ aimed at providing warm clothing to those in need.
Organizer Brian Howard said the faith-based ministry was established nearly a month ago and has helped to provide coats and warm clothes to at least 40 individuals in Ohio County.
Although Howard said there has been a slow start, which he partly attributed to COVID-19 limitations for meeting in-person, he said he hopes to grow the ministry in coming weeks, aiming to reach at least 100 individuals in need in the community.
âRight now, weâve been really blessed with lots of donations,â he said. âWeâre slowly opening doors with getting people clothes.â
While OCH originally anticipated receiving the vaccinations next week, Robinson said they came early.
âThe original date that we were informed of by the Kentucky Department of Public Health was Dec. 28. We did receive notice a few days ago that there was a chance they would arrive this week,â she said. âItâs an early Christmas present for Ohio County Healthcare.â
OCH received 250 doses of the Moderna vaccine, which Robinson said should cover the vaccinations of all direct patient contact employees.
The round will be split in half to accommodate the first round of vaccinations in addition to the booster round.

Fresh Start for Women has made headway in its renovation process for one of its Second Street housing facilities, according to Carol Adkins, founder and board chair at Fresh Start for Women Inc.
Fresh Start for Women Inc. provides transitional housing for women in recovery and their children. Through the transitional program, Adkins previously said Fresh Start has aided many women in getting back on their feet to find stable jobs, purchase their own homes and even regain custody of their children.
The organization currently operates three residences on Second Street in Owensboro.
Adkins said the organization was able to finish having a new stairway installed at one of the facilities with funding from First Christian Church Disciples of Christ and donated supplies from local businesses â Mid South Equipment and Modern Welding.
The Salvation Army in Owensboro handed out Christmas baskets Tuesday for its annual Angel Tree program, which Corps Officer Rebekah Abram said was bigger this year with more than 200 families receiving baskets.
The Salvation Army has been helping to provide Christmas gifts for families in need through its Angel Tree program in Owensboro for about 35 years, Abram said. The program allows members of the community to select a familyâs Christmas list of requested items.
This year, she said, far exceeded previous years for the program in both need and donations. She said there were at least 100 more families than normal signed up to receive baskets with emergency cases emerging daily.
