NPFL resumes as Rangers pip Enyimba, Akwa United move top of log

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) resumed from the mid-season break and it was Akwa United that moved to the top of the table while Rangers claimed bragging rights after beating Enyimba in the Oriental derby.
Another talking point of the MatchDay 20 was Katsina United mauling of Wikki Tourists to move out of the relegation zone.
Akwa United climbed to the top of the NPFL log after edging Sunshine Stars 2-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo. The Promise Keepers took an early lead through Atshimene Charles in the 20th minute but the lead didn’t last long as Sadiq Yusuf equalized for Sunshine Stars in what is his 8th goal of the season. However, Akwa United sealed all three points when Seth Mayi scored the winning goal in the 68th minute.
Midfielder Seth Mayi scored his first goal of the season to secure a 2-1 win for Akwa United over Sunshine Stars and extend the unbeaten run of the Promise Keepers to ten matches as action resumed in Nigeria Professional Football League.
Mayi who was voted the club’s best midfielder in the first stanza of the league confirmed his quality when he scored from close range in the 68th minute.
Charles Atshimene shot the hosts into an early lead in the 20th minute. Two minutes later, Atshimene gave a fine pass to Mfon Udoh but his strike was stopped by goalkeeper Ariyo.

Rangers left it late to crack a very defensive Adamawa United to go joint tops with Kwara United in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after MatchDay 15.
A simple tap-in on the 85th minute by Chinonso Ezekwe off a Tony Eliagwu assists separated the two sides in the match played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu. But even in victory and sharing top spot, Rangers was still described as a work in progress by a member of its technical bench, Mangut Mbwas.
“We are still a work in progress as you can see we introduced fresh legs today who gave a good account of themselves which we are happy for” he declared and noted that the away side made the game difficulty with their approach to earn a draw.

Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu left Agege Stadium yesterday a satisfied man after picking all three points at stake in the Match day 9 fixture of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) between host MFM FC and Heartland FC.
Ilechukwu led the Naze Millionaires from Owerri to come snatch all three points at stake against MFM FC, the church team where he made his name as a top coach in the country.
Heartland set the ball rolling with Emmanuel Adachi drawing the first blood barely eight minutes into the game from the spot.
However, Olumuyiwa Lawal did not allow the visitors to enjoy the luxury of being in front for long as he leveled scores three minutes after the first half break.

Enugu, Feb. 3, 2021 Rangers International Football Club of Enugu on Wednesday defeated Dakkada FC of Uyo 3-0 in a Match Day 8 fixture in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)..
Isreal Abia had put Rangers ahead just before half-time at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, while Christian Nnaji made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute.
Nnaji completed his brace in the 89th minute to bring the scores to 3-0.
An elated Rangers coach, Salisu Yusuf, said the tactics his team applied helped them to win the match.
He noted that he made two quick changes before the interval for tactical reasons which gave his team the edge.
