Charge Upgraded to Aggravated Battery for a Fairfield Man

Wayne County Sheriff's Deputies have updated the charges they have filed against a Fairfield man who was arrested earlier in the month. According to a release from Sheriff Chris Otey, 24-year-old Ace A. Haygood of Fairfield now faces charges of aggravated battery and a petition to revoke probation. Wayne County Sheriff's Officials say that they were called to the emergency room at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in reference to a 19-year-old victim who had been stabbed in the back by what officers believe to be a screwdriver and struck in the head with the same screwdriver. The victim stated after the event, Haygood allegedly left them on the side of the road and attempted to run over them. Haygood was located the next evening during probation detail duties.

IL Sheriff's Association Offering Scholarships

The Illinois Sheriff's Association Announces that they are awarding over $58,000 in college scholarships throughout the state for students looking to pursue higher education. The association says the scholarships are put towards tuition, books, and fees only. Wayne County Sheriff, Chris Otey says that he will be offering a scholarship in the amount of $500. Wayne County Board Recap from Thursday Night

The Wayne County Board met for their regular monthly meeting last night at the Wayne County Courthouse. Michelle Richards and Kris Parrent, representing the Wayne County Humane Society appeared before the board for enforcement clarification for their contract with the county. Currently, the society can only issue warnings in instances of animals running loose. For the most part, these warnings are ignored with the society unable to issue tickets as they do in Fairfield. The society is contracted by the county and city for animal control. The board, the Humane Society, and the States Attorney will review the issue. Richards also thanked the board for the funds to assist in a large remodeling project at the shelter. Stephanie Beehn, the owner of Stephy's Bar and Grill, appeared before the board asking for a revision in the Liquor Ordinance regarding hours of operation. The ordinance currently states that liquor license holders can't be open until 9 am, however, Beehn requested

Retired Wayne County K-9 BOLO Passes

Wayne County Sheriff's Officials announced last night around 7 PM that retired K-9 BOLO passed away. BOLO and current sheriff Chris Otey were partners for about 9 years. Over his career, BOLO helped in the apprehension of numerous criminals and the seizure of pounds of illegal drugs. K9 BOLO retired in 2019 where he continued living with Sheriff Otey and his family.
