Millions of Americans who gathered to watch the total solar eclipse were no longer mesmerized as they got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on their journeys home from the celestial event.
Monday's total solar eclipse drew millions of spectators across the country, with thousands traveling south of St. Louis to catch a glimpse of it. However, their journey was hampered by an unexpected challenge: bumper-to-bumper traffic that doubled the travel time for many.
Bedford County Parks and Recreation holds "Thrive Outside Festival" for the first time kick off the outdoor season and introduce residents to local vendors, farms, nonprofits, gear, shops and camps. Lee Wittekind, outdoor events and outreach coordinator, said he spent the better part of a year talking to the community and learning what the needs are; and the overall feedback he received revolved around residents hearing about events too late or not knowing about them at all.
