high school or any other time in his life, howard fineman joining us. nice to see you again, sir. i m thinking back to social studies class here. i don t know. those things never go away. it s tricky. if my permanent record is permanent we have a lot to talk about. look, we talk a lot about will christie make it through 2014 as governor, is he still alive in terms of the presidential race, 2016. i want to talk about the rga. that s a chairmanship of the republican governor association is an important thing for him and the party. the governor s mansions are a point of pride for the party. they ve got 29 of them. there s 22 republican governors up for re-election this year. some really important states. florida, michigan, illinois, wisconsin, ohio, colorado, including pennsylvania where tom corbett according to chris cizilla is the most vulnerable governor in america. important for the gop to have the governorship of pennsylvania for so many reasons. how long does the gop, does the
anniversary of the march on washington days after the justice department filed a suit against the state of texas over a new voter i.d. law. as president obama prepares to address the nation wednesday on the steps of the lincoln memorial on the actual anniversary of dr. martin luther king s speech. how will the president take on the voter suppression laws. joining me for our daily fix, chris cizilla, co-host of in play, washington post editorial columnist ruth marcus and new york times white house correspondenter jackie combs. welcome all. first to you, chris cizilla. this is a very big week, obviously, for all of us, those of us who remember the march, those of us, those people who were not even born and those people who were the real heros of the march. what will president obama do? he has had differing approaches towards this issue, but with the trayvon martin comments we ve seen how he s willing to, you know, grasp it and break new ground. yeah. you know, andrea, i thought the
she had two messages. first of all, i m not going anywhere. anybody who thinks that i m going to game this system and give president obama a shot, forget about that. but also, she was very harsh i think is a fair word activist. in terms of her colleagues talking about one of the most activist courts in history and that was really fascinating to hear not just this interview, but she s given a whole bunch this summer. saying basically that this is the activist court overturning precedent and not abiding by activist on the conservative. ruth, chris, jackie, thank you very much. we ll be right back. humans. even when we cross our t s and dot our i s, we still run into problems. namely, other humans. which is why at liberty mutual insurance, auto policies come with new car replacement
some feelings and progress but what gephardt did say was this is really hard because people are going to lose their seats if they vote for this and that, when you that kind of self-preservation it s very difficult and the public needs to get on board and support any kind of deal, not their preferred deal, but any kind of deal to help the leaders get there. i want to ask all of you, ari and susan and chris, about the cabinet decisions. we re told the president s still not decided about susan rice versus john kerry, and now there are a number of other players because this is a domino bit of business, where if susan rice goes to the senate department instead of john kerry, it would mean that someone else, probably tom donna lin will remain as chief of as national security adviser. it would open up the u.n. ambassador s job for samantha power. look at some of the players in play here. you have a team being weighed and balanced.
anything government can do to try to stimulate additional job growth, something that he as president has to be thinking about, even if he believes, and i think he does, the economy is turning around if we can get this debt piece off the table, that it s going to free up more economic activity. but there s still a lot of caution on the part of business. and looking down the road, chris cizilla, the president also has a lot of foreign policy challenges, there s a threat of another nuclear weapons test from north korea, you ve got chemical weapons threatened in syria as assad is losing ground to the rebels, the russians and possible productive diplomacy with hillary clinton and others on her team, a lot on the president s plate. they have to get this stuff out of the way. it s the challenge of being president in this modern age, there s so many challenges to being president. i would say i mean i think the thing i m most struck by is syria. it just seems to me, you have the what
