main wreckage. and there s a lot of hope in the sunday search. reporter: yeah fredricka, a lot of hope indeed when the sun comes up in three to four hours now in surabaya. out in the search zone that s several hundred kilometers northwest of where i am. conditions expected to improve drastically, that is really important. we ve been seeing waves, 10 to 12 to 16-foot range. choppy seas making it really really difficult for divers to get in and out of the water. we re told by search officials that up to 90 divers are onsite or on their way. that s a lot of manpower. if they can t get in or out to do their job, it s definitely going to slow things down. about those objects, we re told by the head of indonesia s search and rescue agency that they have sonar imaging of them. that gives the shape of the object that it s definitely man made. in some senses we re told that a
the mayor says she s frustrated too, but she trusts the search teams to do the best they can and get everybody back as soon as possible. david, we learned hours ago that russia has pledged to send a team to help in the search. what will they be doing to help the effort? reporter: this just coming in to us from russian state media that russia is sending two planes. they re actually on the ground in jakarta, along with a couple dozen divers. that s going to obviously add manpower to get more teams into the water in part to recover anything spotted from the air or ships and in part to take a closer look at the ocean floor. depths pretty shallow out there. we re told in the 100 to 150-foot range. but it s murky and when you have choppy seas on top, that doesn t make it easy at all. generally, weather conditions expected to get better after a couple of days. but i have to tell you, it s
evening there. what can you tell us about the search effort and what s new. reporter: searchers are trying to focus on finding this main part of wreckage. we heard of a possible image spotted on the sea floor of 100 to 150 feet deep sonar detecting something in the same area. haven t been able to say whether or not that s the wreckage they re looking for. they brought in all sorts of equipment to help them. unmanned underwater vessel brought in by singapore navy. metal detecting equipment, which can detect metal underwater. sea mapping. 3d imaging. they have yet to determine whether or not this is the main body of wreckage. the big problem at this point is the weather. a little bit of a break earlier today. then the heavy winds, heavy rains, choppy seas all came back and hampered the search effort. they still have vessels out at sea, but in terms of getting
