A Dhaka court today allowed police to conduct DNA test of Fardin Iftekhar Dihan, the lone accused, arrested in connection with a case filed over the rape and murder of an English medium school student in Dhaka s Kalabagan area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yeasmin Ara passed the order after Investigation Officer AFM Asaduzzaman, also an inspector of Kalabagan Police Station, filed a petition in this regard, court sources said.
The court also allowed police to conduct the DNA test of the victim s blood-stained clothes following another petition submitted by the IO.

Fardin Iftekhar Dihan, the lone accused arrested in connection with a case filed over the rape and murder of an English medium school student, today gave his confessional statement to a Dhaka magistrate.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid recorded the confessional statement after Investigation Officer AFM Asaduzzaman, also an inspector of Kalabagan Police Station, produced him [Fardin] at his chamber, court sources said.

Police have arrested a man in a case filed in connection with the rape of a sixteen-year-old in Feni s Daganbhuiyan upazila.
The arrestee is Khurshid Alam (35), an auto-rickshaw driver by profession, from the same upazila, said police.
The victim filed the case with Daganbhuiyan Police Station against two people Khurshid and Russel under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act yesterday night, said Partha Pratim Deb, inspector (investigation) of the police station.
Khurshid was sent to jail by a district court today after his arrest, said Partha who is also the investigation officer of the case.

Provision of Women and Repression Prevention Act not being followed: SC administration

Tribunal judges, prosecutors and police officers of cases filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act are not abiding by its provision of explaining reasons for not completing trials within 180 days, the Supreme Court administration said in a notification today.
SC Registrar General Md Ali Akbar issued the notification asking them to submit reports in 30 days on the delay in finishing trial proceedings within the stipulated time to the authorities concerned of the SC and government.
The notification said there is a provision under section 20 of the Act that says that trial proceedings must be completed within 180 days of the tribunal accepting cases for trial.
