GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Election Tribunal on Saturday admitted for hearing petitions seeking to declare null and void the election of five ruling PTI members, including the chief minister and a technocrat, over use of corrupt practices and illegal means during the polls.
The Election Tribunal Judge Ali Baig set May 21 for regular hearing of the petitions.
The petitions have been filed against Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan, law minister Sohail Abbas, health minister Gulber Khan, local bodies minister Abdul Hameed Khan and technocrat Fazal Rahim, according to a press release issued by the Chief Court on Saturday.
The petitioners alleged that the respondents used illegal means to win the polls in their respective constituencies, which was a violation of the Election Act, 2017.
GILGIT: The people of Ghizer demonstrated against what they called leaving out the district in the multibillion rupees package announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan for Gilgit-Baltistan during his visit to the region on Friday.
The protesters blocked the main road in Gahkuch town, the district headquarters of Ghizer, and chanted slogans against Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan for what they said discriminating against Ghizer in the financial package.
The protest call was given by Balawaristan National Front (Naji group) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s local chapter.
The protesters claimed that no single project had been announced in the package for the district, which was injustice with the people, and demanded equal share in the package.

GILGIT: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday announced a special package worth Rs370 billion for the development of Gilgit-Baltistan, with focus on electricity and road projects aimed at boosting tourism.
“This Rs370 billion package for five years is just a beginning. We will be assisting you more as you require. As per my prediction if you properly take care of tourism, you will no more need money from the Centre rather we will seek funds from you. You do not know how blessed you are,” said Mr Khan while addressing a ceremony in Gilgit.
