$5.1M from new Ann Arbor affordable housing tax could go toward downtown high-rise Updated Feb 23, 2021; Facebook Share ANN ARBOR, MI The Ann Arbor Housing Commission proposes using $5.1 million from a new affordable housing tax over the next two years toward building an 18-story high-rise on a downtown city-owned property. The long-envisioned project on the old Y Lot a public parking lot next to the Blake Transit Center at 350 S. Fifth Ave. could include over 400 housing units, Housing Commission Executive Director Jennifer Hall told City Council. Hall presented her plan to fund several affordable housing developments in the first two years of the new tax during a council budget work session Monday night, Feb. 22.

They all turned bare apartments into welcoming homes for community members exiting homelessness. It’s hard to furnish just one apartment but groups from around Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County have furnished over 25 in Avalon Housing’s new Hickory Way Apartments.
