a two-month test run on a new system got under way yesterday in three airports and a promise to provide the same security without compromising privacy. lisa stark explains. reporter: the new technology was unveiled at a tsa test center outside of washington, d.c. the body-scanning machine is the same but its software is different. so, instead of the revealing image of the passenger, the screener sees a generic outline of the traveler. if there s anything suspicious that traveler is carrying, it s represented by a red box. we believe it addresses the privacy issues that have been raised. reporter: and there s no image at all if the person passes with flying colors. just a big green screen and the word okay. it will be tested in las vegas, washington, d.c. and atlanta to make sure the less-revealing images still provide good enough security. we re not going to put this out fieldwide, airportwide, nationwide, if we don t have the highest level of confidence. reporter: there ar
thanks to the recovery act, we saved jobs this past year, we think as the economy improves, state and local districts will continue to invest, but right now, we re in a moment of crisis. i think we have to step up and do it with urgency. if we act in october, it s too late. we need to meet this head on, square on and do it now, because good superintendents, is planning now for the fall. what would you do? you ran the chicago school system and that s why you re in this job because everybody thought you did it brilliantly. if you are advising these people who are having to make these incredibly hard choices, what would you tell them to do? these are brutal choices. unfortunately, campbell, there simply aren t good answers. that s we we need to step up. that s why the emergency jobs situation is critical. folks cut through fat a long time ago. they re well into bone. there simply isn t a good answer out there if we don t step up
