East Chicago Mayor Anthony Copeland contends the city council did not follow state statute when it gave final approval to new district maps in January and he is suing to stop their implementation.
The council was required to pass an ordinance by the end of 2022 that either certified or changed the districts. The ordinance was adopted by a vote of 6-3.
