The Grand Chess Tour announced today the players selected to compete in the full 2024 tour. Joining the likes of Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave are three rising stars who had not been ‘regulars’ in the tour previously: Gukesh D (pictured), Praggnanandhaa R and Nodirbek Abdusattorov. The 2024 Champions Chess Tour kicked off earlier this week with the return of the Chessable Masters. The first of four major online invitationals consisting of play-ins, qualifiers, and double-elimination matches across three divisions featured over 200 players eventually sorted into groups of eight, 16, and 32 (for Divisions I, II, and III, respectively) over the course of eight days of action.
The new Champions Chess Tour (CCT) season kicks off this month with the return of the Chessable Masters and a faster format. Chess.com’s premier year-long event now consists of four main online tournaments, increasing the intensity leading up to the live season-ending Tour Finals.
