we ve seen other places in the french quarter where a roof was ripped off. that s the story here in new orleans. you go to other places in louisiana that same story is playing out. you have floodwaters, rain damage, and then even have the state fire marshal out trying to get to people and assess the damages throughout louisiana. a lot of flooding. we know one man was killed after a tree fell on his house outside of baton rouge. parishes are praying there won t be any more deaths like that one as some go through neighborhoods to check in and even checklists of people that they know stayed and rode out this storm. they went house to house with a few dozen officers identifying people s names, phone number, where they live and the number of people in the house. all of new orleans now
the spacecraft itself, inside the capsule, things that they had to do, checks that they had to do. that s not happening in this capsule. no, they re sitting back and taking it all in. there are no switches to throw or checklists to worry about. they did check their communication, as you heard. you want to make sure you can talk to each other and talk to the ground if there is any sort of issue. but this is all about being a passenger. it does raise that question, do you categorize them technically as astronauts, given the fact they really have no active role in controlling the craft, or are they tourists, are they space flight participants? i think we still have to kind of sort out the lexicon or definitions as this new era begins. but for now they get to make the rules. we ll call them astronauts because they re going to reach that, you know, imaginary line. and, you know, it s hard to draw a line and figure out where the atmosphere ends and where space
see, just to make it clear to anybody who hasn t watched that already, hanging below eve is unity. latched beneath the wing. at 50,000 feet, you ll hear the pilots going through a series of checklists, l 10, l 9, l 8, l stands for launch. literally, they re going through the checklist. when they get to the bottom you ll see them release unity. unity doesn t drop very far. eve pulls away, then unity lights the rocket, the rocket that will carry them up towards 50,000 feet at mach iii. we mentioned it earlier, but this is a hybrid motor that uses both solid and liquid propellants. when they get to altitude they ll have three or four minutes of being weightless. candidly, the fact some of these folks richard has never been in space before. the two of the three passengers have never been in space before. i wonder whether that s going to be so disorienting for the
