The Six Triple Eight Documentary Airs Feb. 11. The award-winning documentary highlights the only all-African American WAC unit to deploy overseas during World War II.
In February 1945, over 800 of America’s highly skilled and educated women, many from the Southeast, shipped out to Europe for the opportunity of a lifetime. The United States Army’s 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion was the only all African American Women’s Army Corps unit to serve overseas during World War II. Their story began right outside of Chattanooga, at the Third Women’s Army Corps Training Center at Fort Oglethorpe.

One of the event s organizers, Becca Shemberger, says there are three ways to participate New Year s Eve. The first way is live and in-person. That s going to be outdoors on the North Kalamazoo Mall in front of Burdick s and the old Zazios right there. We re utilizing the steps to kind of make a stage, and we will have live performers there from 7 to 10:45.
There will be a deejay from then until midnight. People who attend in-person are asked to wear face masks at all times and follow social distance guidelines.
