In New York, an impeachable offense is whatever the Legislature wants it to be
ALBANY While the U.S. Constitution says that an impeachable offense involves “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors,” there’s no such definition in New York s constitution.
So, then, what is an impeachable offense in the Empire State? Debate on that question has usually been limited to wonky discussions in law journals and forgotten legislative hearings. But there’s a decent chance that it could soon become the only question that matters in state politics.

Here s a scenario that could play out in the coming weeks: the various state and federal investigations into Gov. Andrew Cuomo could determine he’s acted inappropriately, but lack the proof needed to take further action against him. All eyes and especially those of the governor’s critics would very likely turn to the Assembly, which has launched an impeachment investigation into the governor.
Helmut Jahn, bold German-American architect, killed in bicycle crash at 81 Staff Reports and News Services Helmut Jahn, a prominent German-American architect whose designs included a cathedral-like state government building in Chicago and a 61-story skyscraper of blue glass and steel in Philadelphia, died May 8 when two vehicles hit the bicycle he was riding in Campton Hills, Ill. He was 81. Mr. Jahn was struck Saturday afternoon while riding north on a village street in the far west suburbs of Chicago. In a news release, Campton Hills Police Chief Steven Miller said Mr. Jahn failed to stop at a stop sign before being struck by the two vehicles, headed in opposite directions. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
