trump s request to apply a special master to review the documents seized by the fbi during their search of mar-a-lago earlier this month. the judge indicated that she decided to side with trump, but has not made a final decision just yet. there s a hearing thursday to discuss this matter. also new today director of national intelligence april haynes, has told the chairs of the house and intelligence and oversight committees that the intelligence committee is conducting a damage assessment of the documents taken from trump s home. this comes after the justice department released a redacted version of the affidavit. the affidavit used to convince a judge to authorize the search. of course, the main of fbi agents reviewed 15 boxes that trump provided to the national archives, and the search warrant affidavit details the amount of classified materials found in them. 184 documents contained classified markings, including 67 documents that were labeled as confidential, 92 that were

cnn s natasha bertrand joins me now. the director of national intelligence is taking this very seriously. she is and rightfully so, right, because of all the sensitive information we believe was in these documents and we re learning that the director of national intelligence, avril haines has written a letter to the oversight and house intelligence committees telling them that she has begun a classification review and a review of the risk to national security that these kind of loose documents could pose. now, clearly this is kind of an escalation here. we weren t sure whether the intelligence community would be able to see the documents that had been retrieved from mar-a-lago because they are part of an active criminal investigation, and the fbi typically holds very closely any evidence in those probes. but obviously the risk here, the potential risk to national security contained in these documents is just too great for the intel community to not be made aware of what s p
potential future case, plus put investigators in jeopardy or expose potential witnesses to pressure. there s also the long standing practice at the justice department to not say anything about pending cases, especially ones as politically sensitive as this. that said, as the judge in the case recognized, there s public interest involved here. cnn s jessica schneider starts us off. do we know why exactly the judge decided to release this? we don t know for sure, anderson, but it s possible that the doj may have given a little more than they originally thought they could. the judge moved really swiftly today. it was less than four hours after he received prosecutors proposed redactions that he ruled that what they proposed would in fact be sufficient and should be released to the public by noon tomorrow. the reason it s interesting that this judge came to such a quick conclusion is that when doj argued in court last week, they said that any redactions could be so extensive t
