New Integrated Resilience Channel aims to help base stay resilient during holidays

HILL AIR FORCE BASE — To ensure members of the base community are staying resilient during the holidays and beyond, Hill’s community action team has developed an Integrated Resilience Channel. The IRC, found at www.hill.af.mil/integrated-resilience, delivers education and information through various formats, such as videos and virtual live sessions. “This past year we have faced many adversities, both as individuals and as a community,” said Col. Jenise Carroll, 75th Air Base Wing commander. “Resilience affords us the capability to deal with change or loss as an inevitable part of life.” Julie Pinchak, community support coordinator, said the platform will focus on providing a meaningful opportunity for Team Hill members to connect and build personal, team, and organizational resilience.

you? well, we ve had some help with getting these patients kind of set up really well from our colleagues at the army hospital on ft. hood. we spent two to three hours in surgery with one last night and about an hour and a half with another. we had to do procedures on others in the night last night, throughout the overnight period. and we re ongoing evaluation of the assessment of those patients. it s been a busy evening. what your experiencing in terms of the families? how are they holding up? how are you and your team holding up? the families are doing fairly well. we ve been able to make contact with the majority of the soldiers families that are here. some of these soldiers serve far from their original home and there are a couple we have not been able to immediately contact family but we re working with our chaplain services as well as the army to try to establish contact and let loved ones know how they are doing. the families seem to be holding up really well.

one of these is tragic. the rate is higher than any of us, anybody in a leadership position anywhere in the army wants. but i will also tell you that the leaders from the head of the department of army level all the way down are absolutely committed with themselves, with the services, with the support and programs to continue to tackle this issue head on. but what can the leaders really do? ft. hood was supposed to be the showcase for suicide prevention efforts in the u.s. military. several months ago, they began a number of programs there trying to build up resilience, if you will, amongst the troops. offer kocounselling. offer help, chaplain services. medical and psychology services but clearly it s not working to the extent the military wants it to. are there any new ideas out there? not right now according to commanders. they ll keep trying to work away at this tragedy.
