DIBRUGARH: Union minister of ports, shipping and waterways and ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday attended the Asom Diwas organised by the Tai Ahom.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that around 10,000 police personnel in the state will face job losses until 2026 due to their substandard performance. Sarma justified the action by pointing out that the remaining 80% of the police force was effective in maintaining peace and preventing incidents of violence.
The Gauhati High Court observed that the illegal encroachment of heritage sites related to the Ahom Dynasty was "going on unabated due to the absence of any protective steps taken by the State Government."
The Gauhati HC has asked the Assam Government to apprise the court whether the State is prepared to come up with a comprehensive plan for protection of the monuments pertaining to Ahom dynasty,.
