Farmers, food producers to offer virtual behind-the-scenes look at Vermont Ag

Thu, 04/22/2021 - 3:00am tim Vermont Business Magazine #Farm24VT, a social media celebration of agriculture, food, and dairy in Vermont, is set for May 12 at 5 am and will run for a full twenty-four hours. Vermont farmers, agribusinesses, food producers, and others in the agricultural community will be sharing photos, videos, and stories to show the passion, hard work, and commitment that goes into growing and producing food. All of the posts will include the #Farm24VT hashtag so members of the public throughout the region can easily find them. Because of the pandemic, Vermont farmers have lost many of their opportunities to welcome neighbors and community members to their farms. School field trips, open houses, and drop-in visits from people driving by have all stopped.

Letter to the editor: Farmers will be essential to climate change fight

Wed, 12/23/2020 - 8:52am meganj By:  John D. E. Roberts With the release of the report of the Climate Economy Action Center of Addison County on greenhouse gas emissions we have been presented with a snapshot based on generalized “book” values of what the situation was a certain point in time, 2017. The report provides a very general indication of the state of affairs with reference to methane in Addison County. It does provide a baseline from which to work into the future, which has not been done before. It is important though to recognize certain points. Enteric production of methane by ruminants can vary extensively based on the diet that they are fed; that is not considered in this report because the results are not based on actual in-field measurement, which admittedly would be next to impossible. However, a better understanding would be achieved by working with the farmers.
