Dec 24, Colombo: The construction of the Marine Drive section near the US Embassy will be resumed after January 10 and construction work will be carried out 24 hours a day from January 01, Johnston Fernando, Minister of Highways said.
Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando Wednesday inspected the current status of the construction of the new road from the Kollupitiya Railway Station to the Rathmuthu Hotel, the fifth phase of the Marine Drive Project.
When completed, the project will include a tunnel and a flyover across railroad crossings.
Speaking during the inspection visit, the Minister of Highways said the President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has instructed to expedite the construction of the section of the Marine Drive from the Kollupitiya Railway Station to the Colombo Fort, which has been identified as a suitable alternative to reduce traffic congestion on the Colombo-Galle main road.
