President Droupadi Murmu has highlighted the importance of sustainable development of water resources and their efficient management on Monday. She stated that such programme is requisite for both water security and economic growth. She emphasised on adopting a holistic approach to tackle upcoming challenges and stated that the changing trend of climate has already started affecting the water sector.
The Indian government has launched a FloodWatch app, aimed at providing real-time information on the flood situation in affected areas across 23 states and Union Territories in the country. The app will use advanced technologies such as satellite data analysis, mathematical modelling and real-time monitoring.
Most areas adjacent to the Himalayas, east central India and some parts of east and northeast India are likely to see normal to above normal rainfall during the August-September period. However, peninsular India, western and central parts of the country are most likely to receive below normal rainfall.
