Celebrating Spring, the Arts Council Brown Bag Concert Series returns each Wednesday in April at Anna Gray Noe Park in downtown Monroe. An accomplished musician and busy music teacher, Josh Madden has been performing at Monroe-area venues and events for almost two decades. Host of KEDM Public Radio s The Set List, on Saturdays from 6 to 9 pm, today he brings his unique brand of music. Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles, and Elton John on the piano, and Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Dave Matthews on guitar. Free cookies, lemonade, and water. $5 box lunch is available on site. Cash or credit/debit cards accepted. In case of rain, the show goes on indoors at First Baptist Church of Monroe, across the street from the park at 201 St. John Street.

late friday afternoon, i received what seeming was a very innoculous stating that next friday, city offices would be closed to celebrate spring. at the time it didn t dawn on me that was good friday. it was. when the people of davenport realized wait a minute, the town is trying to rename good friday celebrating spring, it hit the fan, didn t it? it did. no pun intended but all holy hell broke loose. i can imagine. we were talking about this story yesterday on our program. now, as i understand, apparently, the civil rights commission which is independent and funded by the city to make sure that everybody s civil rights are protected, they came up with the idea originally and i think it s headed by a fella named timothy heart, i believe, there s a picture of him right there.
