Gardening has grown big time in the past year as the pandemic both forced people to spend more time at home and less time in stores. It offers a safe way for families to enjoy the outdoors, while producing their own fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables, those getting their hands dirty say.
The master gardeners who provide free advice through the Penn State Agricultural Extension Service at Bucks County field many questions even as they too, work from home.
They can give advice about plants and ways to protect gardens and trees from unwanted pests, including the dreaded spotted lanternflys and periodical cicadas, expected to make their appearance locally in the next few weeks after 17 years in hibernation.
