For the past year, waist-high poppies and sunflowers thrived on the edges of Kate Griffin’s front lawn in Alamo Heights.
Griffin and her son tend the garden daily pulling weeds, watering the flowers in hopes of attracting bees and hummingbirds. Recently, they added a habitat for monarch butterflies.
Last week, though, the sunflowers started to droop.
