In the wake of the shooting that happened at a Georgetown High School football game on Aug. 25, and now an incident involving a student bringing a gun to Carvers Bay Middle School on Sept. 29, Georgetown County School District is taking steps to improve school safety.
GCSD has created a school safety committee to try to curb recent safety issues that have happened at its schools.
“Tiger King” star and Myrtle Beach Safari owner Bhagavan “Doc” Antle was sentenced in Virginia on Oct. 3 after being convicted of state felony wildlife trafficking and conspiracy to commit wildlife trafficking on June 16 in Frederick County Circuit Court.
According to court records, Antle was sentenced to a $10,000 fine, a two-year suspended sentence, five years of probation and a five-year ban on working with, trading, possessing, or engaging in other activities with non-native exotic wildlife.
A handgun was found hidden in the ceiling tiles at Carvers Bay Middle School and was secured by deputies, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.
The accused student has been detained.
