THE owners of a safe haven for animals have thanked supporters for continuing to help them overcome the financial impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. Greenland Grove Animal Sanctuary in St Osyth has provided a home for more than 30 horses, ponies, cows and a variety of other species for about 27 years. Founded by Carol Jacobs, the charitable organisation relies heavily on donations from the public, which are predominantly raised as a result of well-attended open days held at the sanctuary. But since the outbreak of coronavirus, welcoming visitors has not been possible and the sanctuary’s income has drastically dropped off as a result.

The COVID-19 pandemic is not only impacting the general population, and driving fear into the elderly, it has affected the profession most needed at this time. And over the past 12 months, the medical profession has lost several of its members who have chosen to retire early.
There is no official retirement age for medical doctors in private practice but President of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP) Dr Lynda Williams, confirmed an undisclosed number of older doctors have decided to call it a day, rather than risk exposure to COVID-19.
Among those who have retired early citing COVID-19 is a popular family physician and former Independent Senator Dr Carol Jacobs.
Newport Beach approves revisions in harbor code for marine activities permits
The Newport Beach City Council approved changes to a section of the city’s Harbor Code that deals with marine activities permits, which are required of businesses that operate or partially operate on the water.

All new commercial activities in Newport Harbor will now be required to obtain a marine activities permit. No exemptions.

THE party is still on, even though it may be scaled down for a much smaller audience. Entertainers continue to provide their fans with a Carnival experience through performances with small, live audiences.
This weekend will see events hosted by soca artiste Nesta “Sekon Sta” Boxill, a 21st Century Calypso Tent Experience that includes Desperadoes Steel Orchestra and top calypsonians, and Neil Iwer George will continue his virtual Stage series.
