Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to sack Jose Mourinho is unrelated to the club joining the European Super League,
The Athletic understands.
But sources say the decision to sack Mourinho after just 17 months in charge is based solely on recent results, with the club sat seventh in the Premier League and with little chance of making the top four.
Is the decision related to the Super League?
No. Spurs sacked Mourinho only a day after announcing they were part of the 12 European clubs who had agreed to form a new Super League.

Tottenham Hotspur made the decision to relieve Jose Mourinho based on the poor results of recent weeks and without any tangible signs of improvement on display.

Jose Mourinho has been sacked as head coach of Tottenham, less than a week before Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
The club confirmed Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra had all been “relieved of their duties” on Monday morning, 19 April.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, said: “Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club.
“Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic. On a personal level, I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.”

London, April 19 : Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho was sacked on Monday less than a week before he was due to lead the club in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City. The club can today announce that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties, a statement on the Spurs website said, reports Xinhua.
