A mistrial has been declared in the case of the former operator of a Colorado Springs day care center who allegedly crammed nearly 30 children behind a false wall in the basement of one of her facilities, according to Gazette news partner KKTV.
The 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced Monday that Carla Faith’s trial, originally slated for this week, will now take place in September because the prosecution has elected to try Faith and two co-defendants together.
“That couldn’t be accomplished under current social distancing restrictions,” said Colorado Judicial Department spokesman Jon Sarche.
Christina Swauger, 37, and Katelynne Nelson, 32, will now stand trial alongside the 59-year-old Faith, who is accused of multiple counts of child abuse stemming from a 2019 arrest that took place after officers performed a welfare check at one of her four day care centers.

COLORADO SPRINGS â A daycare facility once owned by a woman accused of keeping children in deplorable conditions in a separate facility is getting a new lease on life.
The building on Willamette Ave. is the former home of Counterpoint School, owned by Carla Faith. If that name rings a bell, thatâs because Faith is the woman accused of hiding over 20 children behind a false wall in a basement of another daycare center she owned nearby. Court documents revealed the children were left in deplorable conditions, often going without water or food.
A judge agreed Wednesday to postpone the trial for Carla Faith, a Colorado Springs daycare owner charged with several counts of child abuse after authorities found more than two dozen toddlers hidden behind a false wall in her home in November 2019.
In this 2019 file photo, Aimee Goodbar leaves Faith s licensed daycare, the Counterpoint School, with her daughter, Kinsely after Colorado Springs police and the Colorado Department of Human Services investigated Faith s unlicensed day cares.
