SHETLAND’s energy industry is pumping out almost 40 per cent less CO2 emissions than it was just six years ago. An analysis of the latest Scottish pollutant release inventory, published by environment agency SEPA at the end of September, shows that CO2 emissions from Shetland.

FOUR new refuse collection lorries due to come into service later this year in Shetland will be “hydrogen-ready”. It means that as or when hydrogen becomes available these will be fully converted which will “realise significant carbon savings” given their high fuel use..
COMMUNITY councils are being consulted on how to make Shetland’s network of burial grounds more sustainable in the future. Two ideas being floated includes formally closing historical grounds which are at capacity to new burials, and not extending newer ones once they are.
PLANS to accelerate energy efficiency work in Shetland through the council creating its own team of workers have been put on hold amid budget and recruitment issues. The aim of the project was for Shetland Islands Council to undertake energy efficiency work in-house in both.
