A TEACHING assistant at a Newport special needs school is set to complete a solo half-marathon raising money for two worthy causes. Jamie Hindson, of Wootton, will be running for his school, and for people who have suffered with their mental health during the pandemic. The 30-year-old, who is also an SEN community respite carer, originally planned to run in February, then March, but due to lockdown and the government s stay at home message, has now rescheduled for April 18. Leaving St George’s School at 18, Jamie became the first former student to gain full time employment as a teaching assistant at the school.

In submitted planning documents, agent for the development, Norman White, said the current climate has made running the business uneconomic with the restaurant closed for most of the year and has not reopened since lockdown eased. According to the eatery s Facebook page, it has still been offering a delivery and pick-up service for customers. The planning permission was submitted to the Isle of Wight Council s planning department at the end of November, during the second national lockdown. With the property s location on the High Street, no parking provision is shown as it is within walking distance of shops in Carisbrooke and on the bus route into and out of Newport.
