Co-leader Marama Davidson says the Government s adopting a Green plan - for using revenue from polluting companies to fund transition to lower emissions.
She says the Finance Minister s agreed to ring-fence and recycle the revenue from the emissions trading scheme to fund urgent climate action.
The budget also includes nearly 400-million dollars to develop low-carbon technology and to implement the Carbon Neutral Government Programme.

OPINION: The trajectory of New Zealand’s transition to zero-carbon by 2050 will be determined by the decisions and actions we take as a nation, across the public and private sectors, over the next twelve months. Over the next year the Government will set the emissions budgets that will guide the pathway of our country’s emissions reductions for the next 15 years; they will put in place policies and strategies within an Emissions Reduction Plan; and that of COP26. Our leaders will stand alongside their global peers to assure the world that New Zealand is doing its bit to accelerate the transition to net zero by 2050.
