at this hour, we re following two developing stories. in washington, d.c., police are on high alert preparing for saturday s far-right rally in support of those charges in the january 6 insurrection. crews began fencing off the u.s. capitol overnight. amid concerns that some rally-goers may be armed. capitol police have requested assistance from the d.c. national guard in case there is any violence. we re also monitoring developments on the pandemic as the biden administration s booster shot campaign faces serious questions this morning. fda vaccine advisers are going to meet tomorrow to debate whether there is enough proof that a booster dose of pfizer s vaccine is safe and effective. the white house wants to begin offering boosters as early as next week. and now that plan is in jeopardy. we re going to talk to an expert about that in just a moment. but let s start with our nation s capitol on high alert. cnn s shimon prokupecz is live outside of the capitol with our top sto

election. we asked folks, what do you think about the current covid situation in california? the plurality, 39% of voters in this election say it s getting better. 31% say staying the same. only a quarter say that it is getting worse. and i want to now show you that getting better contingent. those 39%. how do they split on the recall? look at this. 64% of them say no. keep gavin newsom in office. only 36% say yes to the recall. looking to fire the governor. he s winning the biggest slice of coronavirus voters that say, hey, we think things are getting better here. we also looked at a couple of key demographics making up why he s leading in the race. among latino voters, 58% say no to the recall. keep gavin newsom. 42% say yes to the recall. that s a narrower margin of victory with latinos than newsom had in the governor s race. but it is still a category he s winning by 16 percentage points and latinos have grown their share of the points. so that s benefiting newsom. and of
